Casey Quilt Group

Busy week with Quilt groups...today we met at Sherry's and these are some of the things we worked on....we meet at 10am and have dinner together leaving around 7pm. It is always a fun and relaxing time...

These are melted snowmen!!! How cute are they each with their own little personality as Sherry would say. She had made several at Christmas and taught us.

A work in Progress by Laura....one thing about a group you can bring something and get all kinds of opinions and their were many ideas tossed around on how to finish it off. The dark piece has all the little colorful figures in it...and she will accent with yellow....just adorable.

Laura's black/white/yellow quilt she got the binding on...again stunning!

This is Day & Night by Eleanor Burns. She includes an Acrylic template. Barb demonstrated the 'how to'. It can be done with 2 or 3 colors and looks like you put a lot of work into it but is really simple. Some of us are planning to do this soon.

More Star Candle Mats that were started in our Tacoma group on Weds. The blue was the original that Pam had made and demonstrated. Barb's is the red one.

Another of Laura's creations. Made for twin grand babies...all hand done...They are so sweet..a Grammie's touch and what a treasure they will be.

Tacoma Meeting

Our meeting was cancelled because of a promise of snow....BUT 'No snow it's a go'....snow never came but we did with our President, Barb sharing a Chenille demo, 2 new rulers called 15" 'Trapezoid" and a 60 degree quilateral triangle and piping of different sizes and feet. We all agreed it was excellent. And of course we had show and tell. The gals like it online because those that are unable to get there are able to see the wonderful creations.

This is a Bargello by Janet...it is 8' x 10' with 64 different colors and 4,725 pieces. It was absolutely gorgeous. Quilted by Ann a local gal. Pictured are L to R....Donna, Janet and Carol.

These were the finished 'Star Candle Mat' demonstrated by Pam last month. Amazing how different they are.

This is mine...if you notice above I forgot to put the finishing border on it..I wondered why it was so small when I put it together with the batting and backing. Well it is done and I will do some hand quilting on it.

Autumn Opulence

It is done!! Finished putting the binding on last night...It is called 'Autumn Opulence' taken from Fabric Trends Fall 2009. What a joy this has been to make for my friend. Quilt designed by Pine Tree Country Quilts for Henry Glass & Co. Opulence fabric designed by Brenda Pinnick, of Stillwater, Maine. It was quilted by Ann on her long arm.
Also note my header: ...This is the ice jam that happened within minutes a couple of weeks ago and caused considerable flooding along the Kennebec River from Augusta-Gardiner, Maine. This view is in Farmingdale and the ice jam is 2 miles or longer and we all await how it will empty itself. Everyone along the river is anxious and ready to move to higher ground if it lets go.

February Quilt Group

Just received this morning from Tacoma friend, Marilyn and hubby Wayne our snowbirds...who enjoy square dancing and will be back in June....she is also involved in Fl with a lot of quilting and always has things to share with us. Thought our group would like to see plus other who check in periodically. KEEP SCROLLING FOR PICS OF TACOMA GROUP MEETING...

Today was another wonderful meeting of Tacoma Quilters. About 18-20 attended. We had a couple of demonstrations. One was Sue below teaching us freezer paper piecing....you can see her delight and a lot of felt the same using her technique. You can check out her blog. Here is a site you can see it demonstrated. It is called Twiddle tales store.

This is the Star candle mat using Thangles taught by Pam. She did an excellent job. Our goal is for each of us to have one done for the next meeting. Mine is already on the design wall waiting to sew.

Rainey made this huge king size quilt and intends to hand quilt. Beautiful!!

Pam finished the top of her 'Morning Glory'. These are being made by several of us to display at State show in July as a chapter challenge.

Janet made this bear paw design. Very colorful!

Bev was the winner for the month of December blocks. Members made them and a name was drawn. We get these wonderful block and then have to decide how to set them. She did a great job.

This is one of a group of antique quilts that were going to be tossed out and they were salvaged by one of our members. Don't we love to get ahold of an old quilt and see how it was done

Tacoma Quilt Meeting

Tacoma had their first meeting of the year and I wanted to share the wonderful 'show and tell'. There were about 15+ on this sunshiny winter day. It was in the 30's.

Koleen's Block of the Month. It was wonderful and a favorite.

She owns and runs 'The quilter's oasis'. She does specialized quilting and so much more.

This is the challenge we as a chapter are doing to show in the Maine Quilts in July.

We started last July making a 'block of the month'. This month was a 'winter theme'. I really wanted these and guess what 'I won"!!! I made the blue snowflake and a friend, Donna unknowingly did the same one in a different color. These will be treasured by me...they are all signed by very dear friends. I will make a wall hanging I can put along my stairway. Now the challenge of decision as to 'how'!!

This is just a taste of all these talented gals. We have a wonderful time when we get together. After the meeting those who can go to lunch at a local restaurant. We don't just quilt together but spend quality time with each other.

New Years Mystery lap quilt addition

I added a new pic with the 6" border I decided to put on it. 1.6.09

Planet Patchwork offered a one day mystery quilt called "Have a nice trip" They posted cutting requirements ahead and then posted in hourly segments instructions from 10:00am to 3:00pm est. I started at 11:00am with nothing pulled or cut...I have an QuiltCut2 that was so helpful in keeping up with them. I Finished and sent them a pic last night.

Pulling colors from my stash is not a strong point of mine. I just grabbed and cut not knowing what we were making. I was pleased with the result...the size is 55 x 43 but I will add another border to enlarge it. A stretching time for me...had never done a mystery...Fun project for a snowy New Year's day.

Twilight Star

This is the 4th and final quilt that I finished for Christmas. I named it 'Twilight Star" and used an accent of T balls...Also made 2 pillow cases to match...62 x 76". I used all the left over material for the back and then quilted it. Mailed today to Tn for grandson.

Christmas Ornaments-Max

This is Mr. Maxamillion...we call him Max...He is my hubby's dog...this is our 3rd Boston Terrier. They are a wonderful dog if you are going to have one.

Finished these tree ornaments..had to make something for my quilt group today so decided to do a couple extra for me. Lots of hand work but cute!!

Colorful Waves - Another Fool around Fun

Shhh...these are Christmas gifts. This is a quilt I did in a class with Freddie Moran..finished the top in '08 and finally completed for my granddaughter. Used all dot material...I had it quilted by Ann Hussey...it is 88 x 70". The black border has pin size dots of all colors in it. Could not find a place to take a picture so took it out doors this morning...around 16 degrees...brrrr!! A close up of the very colorful backing I used.
This is another 'fool around fun'...I added an extra border for length as the men in my family always complain it is never long enough...you cannot tell but it really blends very nice. 60 x 73". This one has a sports theme accent for a grandson.

Autumn Opulence-New Project

This is my newest project. I am making this for a dear friend. It is a kit 'Autumn Opulence' taken from Fabric Trends Fall 2009. It said it was a 'beginner' quilt but it is more an 'intermediate'...there was a lot of piecing...its layout is what makes it attractive. Will not be finished until the first of next year but wanted to do a little to see what it looked like. Well I am off to finish two quilt tops for Christmas.

QuiltCut2 - Christmas projects

This is my new tool that I purchased from Choppin Cotton. I was at a retreat recently and a couple of the gals were using QuiltCut2 fabric cutting system. They cut very accurately and with a lot of ease. A video comes with it plus an instruction booklet. It will be fun learning it. Don't you love new gadgets!!! My Christmas present to myself.I found 'the three stooges' fabric so decided it would be a fun fabric for grand kids. Great to shop for fabric to see what you can come up with. I learned how to make these the easiest way and very quick. Cut:

27" for Body (WOF)
10 1/2" for Cuff (WOF)
2 1/2" accent strip (WOF) (folded and pressed)

Leave WOF until you have sewn and turned.

Layer - Cuff right side facing up
Next - layer Body facing up
Last - accent piece laid on top
( you will have raw edges)

Roll the body into a hot dog. Do not bring to edge.
Bring the cuff up over the hot dog to the
edge...Pin and sew using a good 1/4" seam or more.

Then reach in and turn. finish off with french seam
or zigzag. You will have the easiest and quickest way to make PC.

I was suppose to make an ornament to share at a group. This is my attempt. So I chose my fabric and made a patterrn. The first one had branches too sharp and it was hard to turn and did not lay flat. The second one was not sharp enough. So they are on my tree and not to be given away. It was the same technique I had used for the pumpkins I made a few months ago. Layered batting ...then background right side up and top right side down. Sewed on the inside of the lines I made with a black marker from the pattern I made ....left a couple of inches to turn. The first one I remembered to put the ribbon on the inside before I sewed for the hanger but forgot on the second and just sewed the button and hanger on together.....

Christmas Woolen Ornaments

One of those UFO's sitting for a couple of years waiting to be finished. I probably bought these when on a shop hop and the influence of others (smile) you know how that is...made of felt and easy to work with but I am not a fan of buttonhole stitch....they did come out cute....Christmas Woolens pattern by Rachel's of Greenfield Item #K0803.

Scent of Spring..Live Simply

"Live Simply" ...when I saw this I knew I had to make it to hang in my kitchen. It is from Humble Handwork by American folk artist S. West. Hand embroidered and stitched in the ditch and finished off like a large quilt. 'Scent of Spring' from Fabric Trends Spring issue 2009. I saw this and began to collect batik fabrics. I used a little different variation of color than they used but am very satisfied with it. It is hung going up my stairway. Size 25" x 36"....machine quilted, flowers are buttonhole stitched by hand and stems by machine. These were fun projects for me and now down to business to get those Christmas presents done for others.
