Quilt Carry Bag

This is a Jelly roll Quilt Carry Bag done at a workshop for our quilt group....Takes 26 2 1/2" strips. I used a zipper in the top ....fill with quilts.....cords in the side to pull tight....Approx. 33" wide. Very easy to make and great to have something to carry my quilts to groups.

Disappearing 9-patch

I heard about this technique 'disappearing 9-patch'. I had just purchased these fabrics in 1/2 yd cuts. I was ready for Spring colors and this was so much fun to do. The concept is built on 5" charm packs but I did not want to do something big so cut into 3" . You make a 9-patch and then make 2 cuts and then begin to turn them the way you like them. 18" finished.

I tried this 'disappearing 4-patch'. You make 4 cuts on this one after you make the 4 patch and then turn 4 pieces. Amazing what happen...will experiment more with it. This would be great in lots of colors....red/white....black/white....so much potential!!

Diminutive Vessel finished!!

This is my Diminutive Vessel that I did as a mystery quilt New Years day with Planet Patchwork. It is 35", a very nice size for my round kitchen table. Instead of cutting the corners off I just fold them under as I have a glass top. Looks great!! I quilted on my short arm and really like how it came out.

Twins Quilts - 12 yrs old

This is BQ2 by http://www.mapleislandquilts.com/ . My grandson, Joshua went with me one day to the quilt shop and saw the focus fabric with bikes and said, 'I want a quilt' so we found a pattern and he chose 2 fabrics that he said that looked like a boy. I tried to get him to the 'on sale' fabric but he did not see anything he wanted. He was insistent that these fabrics looked like a boy. He had them chosen in 15 Min's. ..amazing and lots of fun for me to watch him. He is all boy and like the trucks, trains, helicopters etc. I was at one of the kids basketball game and he turned to me and asked me 'have you got my quilt done'. Now I have to get it quilted.

His brother, Jacob wanted Red and Orange and I have been thinking about what to do. This was a mystery quilt that I did with planet patchwork. It is called 'Squares the Center' by Diane. When I saw it I thought great coloring.The black has multicolor dots with orange so will add. Now to decide how to make it bigger.

Christmas Fantasy

A Tacoma Lake Quilt Challenge done!! I named it 'CHRISTMAS FANTASY'. I cannot post until after the reveal which is in March. We each drew cards with specifics and no two are alike. The block was 12" and it was to be 24" square using our own design. It is called a mix 'n match.

It was fun to do...this is my finish for the month. 4" sleeve and tag are on. It will be displayed with the others at the Maine Quilt Show in July in Augusta, Maine.

Mystery Quilt 2011

January 1, 2011 mystery quilt by Planet Patchwork...It is called Diminutive Vessel. This is an online project that started at 11:00am - 3:00 pm. They send a set of instructions every hour. We received the fabric requirements ahead of time so you could have it all cut. It is about 35" square and will be used for my kitchen table. I have black and white cupboards, curtains etc. So it will be a delightful addition...will plan to quilt it tomorrow.

A close-up of quilting.This was a mystery quilt done New Years January, 2010 online with Planet Patchwork. We received instructions every hour. It was named 'Have a Nice Trip'. I added borders to make it 54x66. Used domestic, short-arm quilter and some hand quilting. I was really pleased with the way it turned out. I have renamed it "A moment in time' and will be given to a gal who is fighting cancer. I plan to do another one this New Years day. It is Challenging and fun.

Christmas Gifts

A Christmas Stocking for great grand son, Max who is 6 months old. I have made these for my family. This is the 16th one if I have counted right.

Sassy Purses designed by Barb D..the handles are removable so you can have several. Purse takes 2 fat quarters. These are very easy to make. I put special stitches along the ruffle on the top and they also have 3 pockets inside.

Tulip Bell's Table Runner

I finally finished my 'Tulip Bells Table Runner'. This was a project done at Tacoma guild. Barb, our president showed us the technique and then we finished them on our own. It looked easy but it was tedious. It consisted of three 12" dimensional blocks. The corners were sculpted after After quilted on my domestic machine the corners were sculpted. It will grace my living room.

Quilters Wallet

It has been a while since I posted. I have not done any quilting for a while because of some health issus but am doing so much better. This is a Quilters Wallet that I started with Tacoma Quilt group. It is billed as a skill builder and has lots of pieces if you like a challenge. I did it in black and white so I could use it with any color purse I chose. It has a place for everything that is important to me.

Brown Bag Challenge

This was a challenge that our group did. We had 3 fat quarters placed in a bag...colors were chosen from paint chips that represented our initials. We could add 1 yd. We drew names and I got Carol. I designed this in EQ 6 This is the 24 x 24 wall hanging that I made.

This was my first experience with EQ where I actually designed my own design...It is addictive and I now have EQ7.

Grommet Bag

This is my latest creation. The pattern is called Wallet & Grommet .. Maple Island quilts . I took the basic design and made it my own. Smaller Grommets...narrower handles...Velcro closure. It always amazes me when we choose fabric. It is part of collection from Sweet Treats a vendor at our Maine Quilt Show a couple of years ago. It has an Oriental flavor to it...On the back the prints are switched out top to bottom...cute idea and I love it!! I also put plenty of pockets in it and it holds everything as you can see I have it stuffed already.

A Gift

At the Maine Quilt show there was this quilt 'Scraps of Green' made by the Narrow Gauge Quilters, Phillips.

I walked by it and was so drawn to it and thought to myself that my husband would really like it. He wears green work clothes, his car is green. If he were to buy me a dress it would be greens. Of all the colors that is not my favorite color. But this quilt just spoke to me and I bought a ticket and just felt in my heart it would be mine for him. It was an unusual strong feeling. I did not hear from them so told my husband about it and guessed I did not win it. I was looking through my favorite blogs and lo and behold this quilt was on Sue's blog. I laughed and was glad for her that she had won it. That is the first part of the story.

Today we had a quilt meeting that we both attend and she said 'let's take a walk' so outside we go and she begins to tell me that she really likes the quilt and wanted to make one like it and that it did not really fit her bed the way she wanted it to. AND if I would like I could have it. So I asked the big question 'how much and that I would pay for it". Then I did not know whether to laugh or cry and she said 'just what I paid for it $7.00'. I stand amazed that the God I serve can orchestrate my life and give me the desire of my heart and uses special people to bless me. A couple of postings below a dear friend had made a wonderful gift for me. I am very humbled by it all and so fortunate to have friends that mean so much.

So if you go to Sue's blog you will see it posted on hers but it is now on my bed and I can't wait for my hubby to see it. He will love it especially because it is GREEN!!! Isn't that a wonderful story?? I think so!! THANK YOU SUE R ...YOU MADE MY DAY!!!

A friends Gift & Family

This was done by a dear friend, Jen. She surprised me and gave it to me at Maine Quilts in July when three of us got together to attend the show. I was so surprised and it brought tears to my eyes to think someone would put so much time into a gift like this for me. It will be treasured for many years.

And of course the twins, Jacob and Joshua who bring delight to me...we had 'tent city' in my living room last night. We got pizza and ice cream which they were thrilled by.They turned twelve today.Never a dull moment with them around.

Rangeley Trip

My hubby and I headed to Rangeley area this past weekend. It has been very dry and you can see the trees starting to show their colorful splendor that will be in full color in a few weeks.
We had 25 ducks wanting us to feed them as I sat on the porch overlooking the lake. Hubby finally went and purchased some bread. Lots of fun to watch.

This was the view as I sat on the porch of our motel all afternoon soaking up the sun. This pic was taken later in the day when some clouds rolled in.

Red Onion - delicious food. They are known for their award winning Pizza and chili...I also had home made pea soup with ham....Delicious!!!

Clouds hung low are we headed up toward the mountains. The weather was crazy....some sun...some clouds BUT no rain!!

Star BOM UFO

This is what I am working on...I did a block of the month with Judy Laquidara beginning in Nov, 2008 and the blocks have been sitting. So I finally decided to get it out and put it together. It has been a challenge. I am ready now to put the 5 borders on. The third one is a pieced ribbon border and I am toying with the idea of scratching that and doing my own thing. We will see!!

I entered a block into the Waterford Fair. Out of the 27 entries there were 5 winners and mine was #3. It is a very small fair that we and our friends discovered 3 years ago. The blocks are used to make a quilt for the next year and raffled off.
This was the block I entered. It is my own design that I have used in a couple of other quilts. It is needle turn applique and embroidery. The colors were to be white/green/blue. Their theme was blueberries.

Greenville-Moosehead Area Trip

The picture above was on our way into the Greenville & Moosehead area. We stopped and asked where the best place to eat with good food and cheap prices for lunch and was directed to the BLACK FROG RESTAURANT. We sat in the back overlooking Moosehead lake (forgot to get a pic). Delicious food and wonderful atmosphere. The flowers were gorgeous in the planters. You can see a close-up in the sidebar. And of course I wanted to visit the quilt shop that was across the street. Also bought a couple pieces of fabric from Andover Fabrics called 'Pearl River' by Kathy Hall. My plan is to make a purse.

Shaw Block 1893


I remember seeing this many years ago when we visited. My maiden name is Shaw.

We stopped again back to The Black Frog restaurant after we finally found a motel. This was the sky after a few hours of pouring rain. I am not sure what was that in the sky. I did a close up and it was not a plane so it is a mystery to me.

A wonderful relaxing couple of days.

Life's Field of Dreams

This quilt was made for my special friend, Michelle who is a cancer survivor.....The pattern came from Fabric Trends - Summer 2010. I made it into a twin size and named it "Life's field of Dreams"...It speaks to me of beauty, freedom, fragrance which represents her. I finished putting the binding on at 10:00pm and we met for breakfast the next morning at 8:00am. It truly is 'more blessed to give than to receive' as the bible says. Free design quilting was done by 'Stitch N' Time quilting by my friend Sherry who does an excellent job. Original name: Jacobean Elegance and designed by Sue Goth & Cathy Anderson.

Fair Entry-Bluebelle

This is a needle turn applique/embroidery that I have made to enter into a Maine fair . They supplied the blueberry material and I could add green/white...so I chose a design of mine that I have used on my niece's quilts. They are judged and then the entries are made into a quilt for the next year as a raffle quilt.
